Understanding Psoriasis Better for Home Treatment
Psoriasis is one of the most common ailments with a genetic background. For those who don’t understand what Psoriasis is; it is a skin condition that is more like rashes with a pink color, and scaly build up on top. The usual place it inflicts is the skin on the head, and in chronic cases the limbs and nodes. The milder ones can be kept under control with home remedies, but the chronic forms certainly need expert help from a medical doctor. The silver lining is that it is not known to be contagious.
The simplest of all home treatment is exposing the skin to sunlight for sometimes, but if you live in a climate where sunlight is scarce, then the use of UV light (Ultra Violet Light) is inevitable. However, exposing to sunlight itself can have some negative effect if you are light skinned or you are not used to the sun’s high intensity UV. Most of those inflicted by psoriasis often find home remedy a handy way to get treated rather than go to a doctor every time they see a symptom showing up.
Patients often prefer home remedies that are simple, and it can include some drugs that can be bought across the counter in most drug stores or general shops. However, if you propose taking home treatment for the first time with an across-the-counter medication make sure that you don’t have an allergy that can aggravate the situation. Talking to your doctor too can help you. There are also some harmless treatments, like washing with sea water regularly for example.
If you are willing to look beyond the conventional allopathic treatment, there are numerous other alternate medicines like Ayurveda, Unani…that use wheat germ oil, castor oil, calendula and marigold to treat psoriasis. They are usually very simple, and all that you may be required to do is apply a few drops of the oil to the lesion and let it stay for a while and wipe them clear with a soft cloth. Mud packs, vitamin e and lecithin are also known to help control psoriasis to a great extent.
Since the affected parts tend to form scales over scales, it is important to maintain good hygiene and includes scrubbing the affect region with a soft tissue to prevent scale build up. The advanced form of psoriasis needs medical attention, preferably from a medical doctor who specializes in treating skin ailments. Unlike the milder forms of psoriasis, the chronic ones have the potential to inflict any part of the body. The most likely place for chronic psoriasis to inflict is the genitals, elbow and knees, but not restricted to these places.
Typically you will need to make many visits to a medical doctor’s office if you choose to go for professional help. You will also have to undergo some tests to confirm that it is psoriasis indeed.
