What can I do for a disconnected Verizon cell phone?

My cell (Verizon Droid 2) is currently disconnected do to non payment. I have been on sick (unpaid) leave & couldn’t afford the bill. I told Verizon this & asked if I could put it on suspended mode, but they said no. I want to get a temp cell so I can at least have one for emergencies & text. This would be for about 6 weeks, untill I can get my Verizon hooked back up. Thank you for your help!

you can get a prepaid phone with minutes. its like 15 to 20 bucks, you can get it at walmart or any wear else
